Building green is not expensive in the long run | Smart Skyscrapers Summit 2014



The most awaited event was house full with over 300 top delegates from the construction industry sharing their experience and expertise at the Smart Skyscrapers Summit 2014, Dubai.

Buzzing with the latest industry innovations, the summit showcased the rapidly changing era of construction with facades being the next big thing to facilitate sustainable towers. Speaking at the Summit, Mikkel Kragh from Dow Corning shared challenges that today’s facades are facing in the region and how design and durability can enhance the performance of the façade leading to sustainable high rise structures.

Other top companies from the region joining the band wagon for creating innovative facades were Al Ghurair Construction Aluminium, Arup (UK), Inhabit and many more truly emphasizing the fact that facades have become a fundamental piece of element while constructing tall.

Concluding on a high note, the Summit came to an end with construction of green buildings in Dubai being the prime topic of discussion. Saeed Al Abar, Director AESG and Chairman of Emirates Green Building Council addressed to the crowd at the Sofitel sharing his confidence in Dubai’s construction sector to adhere to city’s new law that makes green building practices mandatory.

“There is verifiable data that confirms that sustainable buildings command a higher value than a non-sustainable building. Our vision is to be an industry leader supporting the region’s quest for sustainability and we strive to be at the cutting edge of the latest developments in the industry, quoted Saeed Al Abar.”  Adding further, he shared statistics stating that 23% savings in energy can be achieved just by altering building form.

Supporting the green construction, spokesperson from ABB, UL Environment, AIA were seen presenting new ideas, case studies and solutions that their organizations are implementing to create skyscrapers that are not only ready for today but also for the future too.
