The event took place on 25-26 May at Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort and Spa.

The summit commenced with a welcome address delivered by IBM’s Sunil Mahajan, who went on to make a presentation titled ‘Not Business Analytics as Usual.’ He explained that insights having a profound effect on businesses can be uncovered using big data harnessed from a number of sources and analyzed in different ways. He proceeded to emphasize how faster, easier and smarter analytics services were the need of the hour, and highlighted how IBM has helped organizations realize the value of big data and analytics. Another interesting session on the first day was Facebook’s Mario Vinasco speaking on influencing product decisions with analytics. Using examples of Facebook campaigns such as ‘A Look Back’, Network Experiments including ‘Say Thanks’, and the shuttle bus operation, he explained the extensive analytics completed on each.

He explained how marketers can use this to tailor targeted campaigns and reach people at the right time, thereby bridging the gap between engagement and conversion.

Flipkart’s Pravin Shinde explained the use of digital analytics to improve marketing of e-commerce portals. Stressing on the importance of data being reliable and collected instantly, he also advocated the use of simple propensity models for better results and zeroed in on mobile as the better avenue for personalized experience. The Middle East Banking Innovation Summit returns with Visa as Title Sponsor

MEBIS1

Panel discussion in progress at the Middle East Banking Innovation Summit 2014

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, May 10, 2015 – The Middle East Banking Innovation Summit is proud to announce Visa as the Title Sponsor for its fifth edition of the annual event, slated to take place on 14th and 15th September 2015 at Sofitel The Palm Resort and Spa in Dubai, UAE. The Middle East Banking Innovation Summit 2015 returns in its fifth year as the foremost banking technology event in the GCC, with over 20 stimulating keynote speeches, presentations and case studies from local and international experts scheduled over two exciting days. The summit is produced by global conference organizers, Expotrade.

The 5th Annual Middle East Banking Innovation Summit 2015 is expected to host over 400 senior executives, IT experts, retail banking specialists and senior finance professionals interested in keeping themselves abreast of innovative developments in technology specifically for the Middle East’s banking sector. The summit’s premise of showcasing innovative technology for the banking sector makes it an ideal and especially relevant platform for Title Sponsor Visa, by virtue of the important role innovation plays in their being a premier payments technology company, with a global network connecting thousands of financial institutions with millions of merchants and cardholders every day.

Topics on the agenda will include global insights and trends in technology for the BFSI industry, retail banking innovation, mobile money, branchless banking, branch automation, customer experience, payments, data security, financial crime and much more, with speakers from leading regional and international banks such as Standard Chartered Bank, Emirates NBD, FGB, Yes Bank, Noor Bank and many more.

Speaking on the partnership with the Middle East Banking Innovation Summit, Marcello Baricordi, General Manager UAE and Global Accounts Lead at Visa Inc. MENA, said: “We are excited to be part of the Middle East Banking Innovation Summit, which is growing to be a much anticipated event that puts the spotlight on the latest trends in the industry. Against the backdrop of regional initiatives to build future smart cities, the payments and financial sector is poised for rapid evolution driven by new technologies and digital innovation.

At Visa, technology is at the core of what we offer, which is safe, secure and convenient electronic payment solutions to banks and cardholders, while also supporting the transition to a smart, cashless society through innovative and cutting-edge technology. We look forward to highlighting our latest innovations in this respect at the Middle East Banking Innovation Summit 2015, and also joining stakeholders from the regional banking industry in deliberations that will shape the way people pay and get paid in the future.”

Innovation in banking technology is becoming a critical need for the banking and financial services industry across the world. Often dealing with outdated legacy systems, long-drawn processes, and archaic infrastructure, banks the world over have realized the need to embrace innovative and disruptive technology. Add to this the complexity of customer confidentiality and regulatory compliance, and the overarching need for banks to ensure innovative solutions are put in place to ensure the best of services is very easy to understand.

Brad Hariharan, Regional Director, Expotrade Middle East, organizers of the conference, said, “Innovation in banking technology is increasingly becoming a differentiating factor between the leaders and laggards in the banking race. With faster and more robust processes becoming the norm rather than the exception, the need for innovation and advanced technology is more acute than ever before.
